Cancer Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy
Cancer Rehabilitation
When you have been changed by a serious illness or injury, rehabilitation can help restore your physical ability and improve your quality of life. Cancer rehabilitation helps a person with cancer obtain the best physical, social, psychological, and work-related functioning during and after cancer treatment. The goal of rehabilitation is to help a person regain control over many aspects of their lives and remain as independent and productive as possible. Rehabilitation can be valuable to anyone with cancer and those recovering from cancer treatment.
Where does Physical Therapy come in?
A physical therapist works with patients to help restore mobility and physical functioning, while preventing further disability. This service may be particularly important for people who have lost muscle tone because of prolonged bed rest, have trouble with balance, or need to use canes or other assistive devices after cancer treatment.
Physical Therapy aims to improve your quality of life and independence by improving your ability to be active and comfortable. Physical therapists can reduce your pain, improve your mobility (i.e., walking, going up stairs, getting in and out of bed), and restore your physical function/performance of everyday activities. They evaluate movement potential and help establish agreed upon goals. Depending on your condition, you may focus on flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination and/or balance.
If you or someone you love could benefit from our cancer rehabilitation program, please contact us right away. We are here to make this difficult time easier for you and your family.
